Julio A. Portalatin is President and Chief Executive Officer of Mercer, a leading global consulting firm that helps clients around the world advance the health, wealth, and careers of their most vital asset – their people. Mercer is a wholly owned subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Companies (NYSE: MMC).

Mr. Portalatin leads more than 21,000 employees who support clients in over 140 countries. Under his leadership, Mercer has experienced significant growth through expansion into emerging markets, broadening investments to $135 billion in assets under management, and leading the health and benefits industry in private exchanges. Vault.com has ranked Mercer the #1 HR consultancy for more than 10 consecutive years, Forbes Magazine ranked the firm as one of the Best American Employers in 2015, and Employee Benefit Adviser rated Mercer top large group employee benefit firm in 2014 and 2015. 

Mr. Portalatin speaks around the world on a variety of topics including the future of work and jobs, trends in human capital, globalization, healthcare reform, longevity, financial wellness, pension systems, and workplace diversity. He is a steward of the World Economic Forum (WEF) work on Education, Gender and Work. He regularly shares opinions in international media including The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, CBS, CNBC, Fortune, and CEO Magazine, as well as locally in Brazil’s Valor Económico, The Business Times in Singapore, The Economic Times in India and Expansión in Madrid. As one of the most senior corporate executives of Latino heritage, Mr. Portalatin has been featured extensively in Hispanic Executive, honored in 2016 as a Latino Trendsetter by LatinTRENDS magazine and acted as keynote speaker at various events including the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR). 

Before joining Mercer in 2012, Mr. Portalatin spent 20 years at American International Group (AIG), where he held many global senior positions, including his last two roles as CEO of Growth Economies and Global President of Accident and Health Business. Prior to AIG, Mr. Portalatin spent 12 years with Allstate Insurance Company in various executive roles in product underwriting, distribution and marketing.

Mr. Portalatin actively supports several nonprofit organizations, including the American Cancer Society, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Wounded Warriors. He currently sits on the Board of Covenant House International which works with homeless youth. He has served on past boards of British American Business, New York Assigned Risk, Allianz Mexico and Landmark Insurance Company.

Mr. Portalatin received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management and honorary doctorate from Hofstra University and is a member of its Board of Trustees.
